Du monde grec, il garde la passion et la force des images ; à Rome, il assimile la force de la composition ; en Espagne, il crée ses propres formules et révolutionne l’art tout en créant une nouvelle école. Bien de son époque mais hors norme et hors style, El Greco (1541-1614) façonne son art à sa démesure : une foison d’images, de couleurs et de sensations. Affranchi des codes, il impose, non sans difficulté, un renouveau de l’art qui stimulera les artistes de Goya à Picasso.
